Timber Harvest
As with all activities that include earth-moving, timber harvest activities are subject to erosion and sediment control regulations and stream and wetland regulations. According to the Clean Streams Law and Chapter 102 Erosion and Sediment Control regulations, all earth-moving or earth-disturbance activities over 5,000 square feet, including timber harvesting activities, must have an Erosion and Sediment Pollution Control Plan developed, implemented and maintained to minimize accelerated erosion and sedimentation to the waters of the Commonwealth. In addition, several municipalities within Clinton County require that the Clinton County Conservation District approve these plans. Contact the resource conservation staff at (570) 726-3798 for more information regarding if an approved plan is required for your harvest operation.
Erosion and Sediment Control Plan for a Timber Harvesting Operation
Timber harvest activities resulting in more than 25 acres of disturbance are required to obtain an Erosion and Sediment Control General Permit from the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection.
Timber Harvest activities are also subject to the regulations that protect streams and wetlands and in many cases, a Stream and Wetland Permit is required.
